Nasim Sobhani, MD
Dr. Sobhani is a perinatologist, an obstetrician who specializes in care during high-risk pregnancies. She provides comprehensive care for women with preexisting conditions that can affect pregnancy, for women with pregnancy-specific health conditions, and for developing fetuses when genetic or structural conditions have been diagnosed in utero. She serves as the medical director of the Endocrine, Diabetes, and Pregnancy Program, which is responsible for overseeing the care of all pregnant individuals with pre-existing and gestational diabetes at UCSF. As the most common medical complication of pregnancy, diabetes contributes to significant increases in the risk of adverse maternal, obstetric, and neonatal outcomes. Thoughtful clinical research is needed to optimize the care of pregnant people living with diabetes. Dr. Sobhani’s research efforts examine how to leverage emerging diabetes technology in the pregnant population; how to improve perinatal outcomes for pregnancies with type 1 and type 2 diabetes; how to diagnose and manage gestational diabetes; and how to better understand the emotional and behavioral needs of pregnant people with diabetes.
